First Raw Wednesday Giveaway!

by Gena on May 13, 2009

Hello, friends!

I hope that raw Wednesday was great! And I’m so glad that the young coconut tutorial was helpful. I encourage you all to pick up your cleavers and try these out at home!

To end the second raw Wednesday in our series, Jenna and I would like to announce our first giveaway! The prize is one copy of Ani Phyo’s wonderful new dessert book, Ani’s Raw Food Desserts.

ani

For those of you who don’t know Ani’s work, you can find a link to her first book in my Raw Foods 101 tab. Her first book, Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen, belongs in every aspiring raw chef’s library. It’s beautiful, informative, and stocked with absolutely delicious raw recipes. Best of all, it’s simple: what makes Ani so special is her easy approach to raw foods: all of her recipes demand minimal prep time, minimal kitchen appliances, and minimal stress.

Ani’s new book is a trim, adorable collection of her favorite desserts. Those of you who have experimented with raw desserts have probably noticed that most are fairly labor-intensive and extremely high fat. Ani’s are healthy, quick, and nourishing. I plan on doing a review of the cookbook soon, at which point I’ll have a chance to show you some of her recipes up close and personal, but in the meantime, it’s my and Jenna’s pleasure to offer one of you a copy! All you have to do is respond to this post with a comment telling us your favorite raw recipe thus far in the challenge. It can be a simple salad or one of your raw snacks: anything that has captured your imagination in these two weeks. Good luck!

In other news, Ms. Gina–aka The Fitnessista–is visiting new york with her friend Megan next week. We’re trying to put together a blog lunch!! If you’re interested in joining us, please shoot me an email, or visit Gina’s blog and leave a comment on this post! I would love to meet NYC bloggers and readers I haven’t met yet, and I’m very excited to meet Gina. Melissa of Fitness NYC will also be there. Let us know!

So you’ll notice that I’m not at the Animal Collective show. Unfortunately, I’m just not feeling up to it tonight. This breaks my heart, since Animal Collective is by far one of my top bands, but sometimes you need to listen to your body: I’m still tired and very queasy, and I’m flying out at the crack on dawn on Friday. Sigh. I’m sure it’ll be a night to remember.

On that note, I’m off to rest. Good night, guys!

Ani Phyo’s book looks amazing! I’ve been adding more raw veggies in my meals. Nothing fancy just more greens, bell peppers, carrots, sprouts, tomatoes, etc. Much easier this time of year!

Chia pudding is my favorite raw snack. I love this stuff. It is so easy too. I do:

1/4 cup of Cha-Cha-Chia
1 1/2 cups of unsweetend almond milk
1 stevia packet
chopped strawberries and a handfull of blueberries
I let this sit in the frdge for about 30 minutes and then I spoon myself out some! I sprinkle the top with Raw Cocao nibs and it is Awesome. Hope you enjoy!

I haven’t specifically tried any raw foods recipes yet but would love to give it a try. I’m looking for some recipes that my husband might enjoy. If I start with the wrong thing he might not give it a second chance.

Oh yippee! Having just made one of the desserts in Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen this week, I know this book will be awesome. My favorite raw-cipe is probably the Chedder Cheeze Spread that I made this week from One Week Raw (it’s a free raw cookzine). OMG, this stuff is soooo amazing! Oh, if I can pick two recipes, a Raw Cheezecake that I made from Vegetarian Times is also to die for.

The cookbook looks amazing, and really, raw donut holes? Does it GET any better?! It is fun to try eating raw, especially since I don’t really like veggies (it’s a texture thing) and so I am really challenging myself!
