Hippocrates Health Institute Video Giveaway

by Gena on July 11, 2010

Every now and then, a fellow blogger will graciously give away some of his or her cookbooks in an effort to downsize. I’ve got a habit of hoarding keeping cookbooks, so you won’t see me donating them anytime soon, but I am far more generous with my video collection.

Some time ago, a dear friend gave me an almost complete series of video lectures from the famous Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida. This health resort is often known as the throne of the live foods movement; they make supplements, educate interested people in the nuances of sprouting, and offer their own health practitioner certification course.

The video lecture series covers all of the basics of the Hippocrates brand of a raw foods lifestyle: a very detailed account of food combining, supplements, fasting, detoxification, and so on. They’re inspiring and positive, and they’ll certainly make any rawcurious viewer even more motivated to explore! I will offer a full disclosure: these videos aren’t really copacetic with my own practice of a semi-raw life. For one thing, they’re geared toward people who eat, or wish to eat, close to 100% raw. For another, there’s a spiritual emphasis in the language that I don’t relate to. Most of all, I don’t agree with a number of the practices discussed (such as fasting and the systematic use of home enemas), and in fact I think that they can be hazardous when practiced by people who are interested in raw foods for the wrong reasons (for example, unnecessary weight loss).

Still, it’s always valuable to explore viewpoints that are different from our own, no? And while I don’t agree with much of what’s taught at Hippocrates, I do admire and support their longstanding efforts to promote good health through the teaching of raw and vegan dietary principles. There’s no doubting that Hippocrates is a formidable institution, and I think that anyone who wishes to explore a more exclusive brand of the raw lifestyle should check the videos out!

Lecture 1 - Principles of Health: A brief history of how Hippocrates came into being. A comprehensive explanation of the food groups in the Living Foods diet.

Lecture 2 – Internal Awareness: The basics of the digestive / eliminative system and how to detoxify.
Instruction on the proper way to use enemas and implants.

Lecture 3 – Supplements, Algae, Herbs, and Homeopathy: A guide of the diffrerent acailable supplemtents and their benefits. Also alternative opinions to complete the needed consumption that our human body requires.

Lecture 4 – Ancient and Current Self-Help Techniques: Many helpful healing techniques that can be done at home. For challenges of cuts, burns, impaired vision, infection, pre-mature gray hair, and many others. These time-tested remedies are at your fingertips.

Lecture 5 – Fasting on Liquid Nourishment: The benefits of fasting on green juice rather than water. A review of the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits of fasting.

Lecture 6 – Questions and Answers I: Questions on the science, psychology, and food of the Living Foods Lifestyle. The responses provide clear and thoughtful information.

Lecture 7 – Detox and Elimination: The workings of the elimination systems (Lymph, Liver, Lung, Kidneys and Skin) and your bodies’ reactions to a detoxifying program).
View in English

Lecture 8 – Practical Living: How to really live the Hippocrates Lifestyle when you return home. How to have what you need at home, work, and in social situations.

Lecture 9 – Questions and Answers I: Questions of the participants are posed. The responses provide clear and thoughtful information.

Lecture 10 – Bringing it all Home: The physical, emotional and spiritual healing process. How to achieve your highest goals in life. Applying the Hippocrates lifestyle at home.

Lecture 11 – Food Combining: Proper combining of foods for good digestion. Foods that should never be eaten together. Key information for optimal health.

Here they are, having lived a nice life on my shelf, right next to season 4 of The Wire (takes a moment to bow head in solemn reverence for the greatest show of all time).

Hmmm. According to my home video library, I’ve got rather eclectic tastes.

In two weeks (that’s July 25th), I’ll announce the winner of this 11-video set.

I’d be most interested in Video Number 8: Practical Living, because it’s usually the aspect of eating raw and living foods that most people struggle with. I’d use the video to gain more information to share with people I help who are health-challenged. Thanks for the opportunity to enter! :)

i’d love the video focusing on the Hippocrates practice at home. I found my transition to an increasingly raw diet has been in itty-bitty baby steps and i’m hoping this video will help me on my journey :) .. Thanks!

Gosh, how do I pick?! As a “higher-rawer” and lover of quality information I would truly be interested in any of them. If I had to pick one though, probably 2,4,5,8, & 10 get my attention the most. Thanks! And thanks for the fava recipes too.. looking forward to trying them out!

I would say the “Practical Living” would be my pick. I would really want to learn how learn to live this lifestyle everyday…especially when the rest of the family is not raw….

Rad! ALL OF THEM, but I guess it’s a tie between Lectures 3 and 8.

Lecture 8 would probably be the most helpful to me.
And I’m sure that once I’ve learned all I can from the videos, that I would pass them along.

I tweeted. Thanks for doing this. :)

I’m interested in ALL the videos – but 2, 8, and 10 probably would be the top three! I’m posting the tweet right now!

I would be interested in the food combining video as well as the liquid fasting (on green juice) video. As I learn more about the raw food lifestyle, I am wanting to learn more about proper food combining and green juice fasting. Thanks for doing the contest! :)

These video lectures sound incredible. I’d love to watch them all, especially the food combining and practical living sections. I want to learn as much as I can about plant-based living, and what it means for my personal lifestyle.

Thank you for the chance to win this set!

I would love to see the dvd on food combining!

Reply

Ricki July 13, 2010 at 1:14 pm

How I wish I could have stopped by the institute when I was in Florida! I would be most interested in the detoxification/elimination DVD because of its connection to balancing out candida overgrowth. But they ALL are supremely interesting to me!

Ricki July 13, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Just tweeted as well. :)

I would definitely be most interested in the elimination lecture. While I don’t necessarily agree with “aggressive” enema use, I think that most persons (including myself) are ruefully uneducated on elimination.

I’m most interested in videos 7, 8 and 11.. I think the detox and elimination is the key to starting a new food lifestyle. Also, learning to ensure you have all that you need and ways to combine foods/avoid combinations that may be harmful are the most important!

Natalie July 13, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Goodness! I’m most interested in the practical living, I think.

Reply

Marta July 13, 2010 at 5:22 pm

oooh, hard to pick just one. Practical Living jumps out at me as I find it easy to make good choices at home where I surround myself with good options (especially when I have time to shop and plan), but it’s so hard to find a balance when I’m out, or with friends (people get their back up about very specific foodstyles), or just so busy that planning goes out the window. The Principles of Health comes in a close second as I’m still new at this whole Live Foods idea and I have so much more to learn!

Reply

Ian July 13, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I would be most interested in the video explaining practicality! I just want to have the best working knowledge possible of all different sorts of eating patters and such. I’m essentially a researcher at heart & profession :)

Many of the different videos fascinated me, but the one I am most eager to watch is Lecture 8 – Practical Living – because, it is, well, practical. I mean, a lot of the others sound great, but I want something I can really do, daily.

I would like to see #11, food combining. My introduction to food combining was from Marilu Henner’s book, “Total Health Makeover”, which made me look at the way I ate in a whole different way. She had a chapter on food combining and had a few illustrations, but I’d love more information and a different perspective.

Kaysie July 14, 2010 at 9:43 am

I would be most interested in detox and elimination. I would actually be giving it to my friend. She is getting her phd in nutritional biology and has been really open to my suggestions about a high raw lifestyle. However, her mom just had brain surgery to remove a malignant tumor. Predicted lifespan following these surgeries is only 13 months. Diet is a HUGE factor in that lifespan and I want to give my friend as much help as possible. Sometimes it takes a tragedy or scare to get one to rethink some of life’s daily choices. I know her mom is totally on board with making these changes and I would LOVE to equip her to do so!

I’d be most interested in 2. internal awareness and 4. Ancient and Current Self-Help Techniques. I have cured myself of many ails and discomforts from going gluten and dairy free when doctors had no idea what was happening. I think the tools of self awareness and action are very powerful and hopefully I can fine tune that more with these videos! Thanks so much, keep up the good work!

Tiffany July 15, 2010 at 8:26 pm

I would be interested to learn more about food combining. I often have issues with digestion and also suffer from gluten intolerance. They all look very good!

Claire July 16, 2010 at 8:27 am

I would love to see Lecture 10 about bring the program home. This centre looks absolutely fabulous, but to I’m interested to understand how to incorporate such a lifestyle not just into a family home with children and a meat eating Hubby, but also to share with my local community.

Reply

Anne Lawrie July 16, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Ancient and Current Self-Help Techniques sounds the most useful to me. Thanks for the opportunity to win, Gena!

I’m most interested in: Lecture 5 – Fasting on Liquid Nourishment. I’ve never done a fast, but so many of my friends and family swear by them. I’d be interested in the ideas presented in the video.

Thanks for your generosity!

I’m the most curious about Lectures 7 and 10. “Detox and Elimination” is something I’m always skeptical about, because our organs (treat your liver well!) are pretty good at detoxing without the help of insane diets or guidelines. “Bringing it all Home” sounds promising too. I’d love to know how to achieve my highest goals in life!

i would be most interested in lecture 3 + 4. it is so awesome that such a complete lecture series like this exists to watch at home!

Reply

Sarah L. August 1, 2010 at 3:09 pm

I’m always interested in at-home remedies, rather than popping over the counter pharmaceutical solutions for all of life’s ailments so I’m definitely most interested in Ancient and Current Self-Help Techniques but the whole series sounds amazing.

Reply

Renee August 1, 2010 at 5:09 pm

I would be interested in #2 and #5. I just found your blog this weekend and I’m lovin’ it!
Thanks for all that you share!

I am most interested in Lecture 3. Having concise information on supplements, algae, herbs and most of all homeopathy is supremely crucial to me. I have a degree in Exercise and Health science and work in traditional medicine (at an osteopathic facility). The longer Iwork in medicine, the more I see how much we can all benefit from preventative and homeopathic medicine before anything else. I love encouraging family and friends to try using nutrition and nature to care for themselves as well as using it to change my life as well.

Amazing videos and website. Thanks for all you do!

Lecture 8-Practical Living. I want to perfect my lifestyle and share it with my family and friends. I am also a nurse who works at an integrative office and all day I encourage clients to change their lifestyle to get healthy.I tell them it is all the have to do to heal themselves is to learn the Hippocrates Lifestyle. Some patients have been to Hippocrates and have not been able to keep it together and it makes me very sad. I would also like Lecture-5, I feel so strongly about fasting and want to be sure I am doing it correctly so I can share it as well! I really would appreciate any of the lectures they are all so very important.

K August 2, 2010 at 8:21 am

I think I’d be most interested in the question and answer lectures. Hopefully, some of the participants would have the same questions that I do!

Thanks for letting me enter the contest!

Are you aware that Hippocrates Institute’s “Brain” product was tested by an independent 3rd party laboratory? “Brain” had more cancer-causing poisonous BENZENE than any other product in FDA history!!! Here is the blog on the “Brain” test: http://e3livecancer.blogspot.com/
Brian Clements, director of Hippocrates Institute has no documentation to counter these results. That is why I quit using their products.

The entire series is important for my health recovery. Suffering from lymphedema, psoriasis and arthritis, I need to learn and then put into practice a way of living that will bring healing to my body, soul and spirit. Asked to choose one I will pick Lecture 7, since that will speak directly to the lymph system and its interaction with the other systems of elimination. But it would be a blessing to listen to all twelve. By the way, the series pictured has twelve, but you mentioned giving away eleven. Maybe 12 is particularly dear to your heart? You are sweet to plan to give away a set of 11 and, should you choose me, I would be grateful to receive them!
